we spent the afternoon at the 'forty thieves', the beach bar we'll be spending our weekend nights at. it's the cutest little place.. the first thing i notice is that the floor is sand, there are no walls and it quite literally just flows straight onto the beach. we all make ourselves comfortable, order cocktails and food.. i spend a bit of time with the camels tied up on the sand. it's raining on and off but we're quite happy just kickin it under cover. a few of us sit down next to these two british girls who've been trekking around africa for the past 2 months and we spend the 4hrs we have there chatting with them, slowly getting tipsy off local beers and discussing future travel ideas (: we're actually meeting up with them again next weekend for saturday night drinks which will be quite fun.. my intentions of this kenya trip aren't really to get shit-faced every weekend but having a relaxing drink or two on the sand is really quite nice..
haha i'm realising that this writing style is getting weird, i keep switching tenses and going from we to i.. it's like i'm undecided as to how formal to make it? i don't know. in any case today was really lovely and i think it'll be the perfect wind-down after weeks working solidly on projects. there's internet at the forty thieves also which is going to be really handy.. right now it's evening again, we're all fairly hungry and waiting for dinner. there are 6 other people writing in journals all around me and we're all trying to keep each other motivated to continue throughout the entire duration of the camp.. some of the boys are playing pool.. there are a lot of bugs about and one just fell down my shirt haha. it feels nice to be all fresh and salt-free, although the non-heated showers make you gasp a bit when you first jump under them. i think it'll be perfect after hot sweaty days of construction though (: i'm trying to get the hang of my new lenses but it's hard adapting to the drastic changes in light. please bear with me, hopefully i'll have improved a lot by the end of my stay here!! i must say despite liking the whole immersion into kenya thing, i'm also looking forward to sending messages home every now and again on my new kenyan sim card.. [twix - in case you haven't already noticed, whatever retarded international number just landed in your inbox is me..]

Leila i look at your blog, and then again and again and again. It just looks so amazing, and you aren't even long into the journey. I hope you are having the best time <3 georgia
ReplyDeleteHi Leila! Have fun in Kenya and say hi to Rama for me. Oh... and Forty Thieves nights out will result in you being shitfaced every weekend -trust me on that one! One drink leads to two...two leads to ten... You'll find yourself dancing horribly to the macarena! Eat some chapatti and beans for me too and have an epic time. I miss Muhaka! Lots of Love, Em x
